My name is Johnie, and I am a writer, photographer, and producer. My work examines the relationship between humans and the environment, the goal being to amplify stories of climate change activism, public lands policy, responsible outdoor adventure, and recreation used a tool for positive change.

My career has taken me from an editorial position at a surf magazine and photographing a series on adaptive athletes, to helping produce a 250-mile run/film project advocating for the protection of public lands, to documenting the first unsupported kayak crossing of the Florida Straights to raise awareness for refugee policy reform. I’m currently producing a project showcasing organizations working to mitigate the effects of plastic waste around the globe.

In addition to these passion projects, I regularly produce and photograph campaigns for outdoor brands and contribute to eco-minded and independent publications like Beside Magazine and Patagonia’s Cleanest Line. I serve as the copywriter for a handful of companies, and as the editor of the Teva brand blog.

I actually wanted to be an astronaut growing up, but settled for surfing, rock climbing, and piloting a Land Rover instead. I have a deep infatuation with film, my house looks like a jungle, I spend a good portion of my time living out of a van, and I firmly stand by my belief that The Force Awakens is the best Star Wars movie.
